Kwizda Agro Expands New Research Facilities at AIT Tulln
Plant protection manufacturer focuses on innovative active ingredients from its own development and will soon conduct research in micro- and molecular biology across 350 m² in Tulln.
Vienna/Tulln, September 26, 2024 — In order to offer farmers and foresters a comprehensive portfolio of biological plant protection solutions, Kwizda Agro is ramping up its in-house research and innovation efforts. The company is expanding its research infrastructure at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Tulln, Lower Austria, and will begin research in September 2024 in a 350 m² facility dedicated to innovative solutions in the field of micro- and molecular biology.
Kwizda Agro focuses exclusively on biological active ingredients for its proprietary products. The plant protection manufacturer is intensifying its research and development efforts to create new active ingredients and expand its comprehensive expertise in producing complex and high-quality formulations. At the University and Research Center Tulln (UFT), Kwizda Agro will work on the fermentation of microorganisms in both solid and liquid forms, microbiological testing, quality control, and the development and testing of formulations in the laboratory.
The new research facility at UFT offers office spaces and laboratory areas for fermentation and analytics pilot plants. In addition to expanding its research infrastructure, the company is also growing its local team. Over the next five years, a research group of twelve microbiologists, biochemists, bioinformaticians, and biotechnologists will be based in Tulln. Kwizda Agro is also strengthening synergies with research groups from AIT, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, and the Vienna University of Technology, as well as with local startups. The company also provides attractive opportunities for students: up to four doctoral or master's students will be able to conduct research in the new lab.

The Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) is Austria's largest non-university research institution, serving as a bridge between science and industry. The Tulln location offers ideal conditions for industrial research in plant protection and fosters close collaboration among biotech partners.
