Kwizda Agro Embraces Solar Energy for New Storage Facility

CO2-neutral Raw and Finished Goods Warehouse in Leobendorf Begins Operations

Vienna, 20 November 2023 – With its new raw and finished goods warehouse at the Leobendorf site, Kwizda Agro once again demonstrates that sustainability, safety, and economic efficiency go hand in hand. Not only does consolidating storage capacities at the Kwizda Agro Leobendorf site save future CO2 emissions, but the commissioning of a photovoltaic system also contributes. Operating with a capacity of 770 kWp, the warehouse runs exclusively on solar energy, making it CO2-neutral. In parallel, significant investments have been made in the latest storage and safety technology to protect the environment, employees, and local residents.

To consolidate storage areas previously spread across several sites in Austria and meet modern storage requirements, a state-of-the-art raw and finished goods warehouse was constructed at the Kwizda Agro plant. The warehouse, with 8,800 pallet spaces, stores substances for manufacturing plant protection products and the products themselves, separated according to storage class. Modern storage processes and safety technology not only meet logistical demands but also ensure maximum safety for employees.

As one of the first companies in Austria, Kwizda Agro is adopting e-mobility for internal plant transportation at the Leobendorf site. The energy required for this, as well as for operating the entire raw and finished goods warehouse, is produced by the photovoltaic system installed on the premises. "2,000 solar panels covering 7,500 m2 will annually generate 770 MWh of solar energy. Thus, the warehouse operates in a CO2-neutral manner," explains Ronald Hamedl, Managing Director of Kwizda Agro.

The construction of the raw and finished goods warehouse took 17 months, with Kwizda Agro investing 21 million euros in the project. A significant part of the project's success involved regional companies. The operation of the new warehouse has added 24 new jobs to the existing 160. Like the Kwizda Agro plant, the new warehouse is equipped with a barrier wall. A dense wall, extending up to 32 meters into the ground, encircles the building, separating it from the groundwater flow.

The new raw and finished goods warehouse contributes to supplying local farmers with conventional and organic plant protection products. Products manufactured at the Leobendorf site are essential for protecting field, fruit, and vine crops, playing a crucial role in the production of domestic foodstuffs.
